Zygmunt Bauman (Poznań, 19 november 1925 – Leeds, 9 januari 2017) was een Pools-Britse socioloog en filosoof van Joodse afkomst. In de jaren tachtig verwierf hij bekendheid met zijn boeken over moderniteit. Bauman was professor in de sociologie aan de Universiteit van Warschau, de Universiteit van Tel Aviv en de Universiteit van Leeds.

Zygmunt Bauman (Poznan, 1925 - Leeds, Inglaterra, 2017) Sociólogo polaco. Miembro de una familia de judíos no practicantes, hubo de emigrar con su familia a Rusia cuando los nazis invadieron Polonia. Bauman, siguiendo a Redfield (1971), presenta las características que develan la naturaleza de la comunidad: a) es distintiva respecto de otras, con claros límites de su espacio y el de los otros; b) es pequeña, esto es, la conforman pocos miembros de suerte que todos estén a la vista; c) es autosuficiente: abastece todas las necesidades y actividades que demandan sus miembros.
